Who We Are

Girls Who Code at Georgia Tech is a club of female and nonbinary students passionate about empowering and creating community for students interested in STEM, especially those who are traditionally underrepresented. Our goal is to provide middle and high school students with role models and support in their CS-education journeys. We're also dedicated to providing resources to our members in their professional journeys by partnering with company sponsors and hosting events with them.

What We Do

In the fall, we focus mainly on internal engagement, where members network with our company sponsors and develop their professional skills. In the spring, we focus on external engagement, where we develop curricula for local middle/high students from the Atlanta Metropolitan Area and teach monthly coding lessons to these students.

Volunteering

As part of our mission to help younger students explore computer science, we partner with local communities every year. Below are the partnerships we have.

    CEISMC

CEISMC, or the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing, is the primary connection point between Georgia Tech students and the preK-12 STEM education community. Every semester, we partner with CEISMC and teach at at least one K.I.D.S. club session, where we teach a curriculum made by our members to middle-high schoolers.

    Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta

Every spring, we hold an on-campus session where we teach Girl Scout Daisies a fun CS Unplugged curriculum! We help Girl Scouts earn their Coding Badge and learn about the fundamentals of computer science.

Who can join Girls Who Code at Georgia Tech?

Graduate and undergraduate students of all majors are welcome!

What is the difference between General Members and Facilitators?

General Members have access to all our corporate networking events, job/internship and other career opportunity postings, and club-wide social events.

Facilitators are members who are selected through an application process to teach at our volunteering opportunities. Facilitators have access to all the resources that our General Members do.

What is the time committment?

General Members can commit as much or as little time as they would like.

Facilitators also need to volunteer at least 2 times a semester, but they can choose when/where they teach.

Is your organization known for any particular events, programs, activities, or other elements?

GWC hosts social and professional development events for all members. For facilitators, Girls Who Code at GT additionally connects them with younger students, who they teach and mentor. There are also facilitator-exclusive events held throughout the year.

Does your organization collect dues?

No.

Will your organization host meetings/events in-person, virtually, or hybrid for academic year 2023-2024?

Meetings/events will be hosted in all formats, but mostly in-person!

How do you elect officers?

Outgoing officers will decide how roles are filled by the current board. For open positions, outgoing officers will vote on applicants. In Spring 2024, only those facilitators who have volunteered at least once by mid-March are eligible to run. As of Spring 2025, all incoming officers are selected by outgoing officers. The basis of selection criteria is measurable dedication to the club, through participation in events and volunteering.
